Interestingly the top 10 drivers were separated by less than a second, which is a good sign that the Indian Racing League will be a closely fought one. However, one must note that the drivers and cars were not weight equal since there was no ballasting undertaken. This would have worked in favour of the lighter drivers. Also, the fuel loads of each driver was unknown, which would have also had some impact on the laptimes.
Karun Chandhok, Armaan Ebrahim and Parthiva Sureshwaran were the three Indian drivers to break into the top 10. The slowest of the international drivers was Mika Salo who ended his session in 14th and the only female driver in the test, Cyndie Allemann, was classified 21st. The laptimes might not be indicative of the actual speeds since the drivers were briefed to make use of this test session to understand and adjust to the Radical SR3 car.
Post the session, all drivers reported good feedback regarding the SR3. While most drivers thought it was too slow, the grip levels and ease of driving were two aspects that were widely highlighted and accepted. More on i1 Super Series…

Looks like the top 13 were covered by 1s and 11th – 13th need to be re arranged? Yamamoto was slower than both Patel and Jaffer.
This series is looking great at the moment and since they now have the drivers and the cars the teams will surely be sold!
Keep up the great reporting Kunal!
Sorry Even yoong was slowe than Jaffer which makes 4 Indians in the top 10!!!
Yes James. Thanks for pointing out. I had copy-pasted from the press release. Keep reading!
Did they use an alternate layout? The times seem fast.
Yes Joey, from what I know, they used the shorter layout of the circuit.
Will surely keep reading. Will you be doing a review on all the drivers selected in particular the Indian guys? Think you mentioned this in one of the previous posts.
You should edit the results and move Aditya and Jaffer up as they deserve some good coverage for their performance.
Yes, I will be sharing my thoughts on the driver line-up sometime later tonight. Thanks.
I hope Fisichella does well in the season.
I hope so too. Villeneuve will do so. From the Indians, watch out for Aditya Patel.
To confirm, yesterday’s testing took place on Yas Marina’s 2.34km South Circuit. Weather was dry and sunny (as expected!)
Thanks Stuart for the details.
