For all of us self-respecting Formula 1 fans, the delayed start to the 2020 season due to unforeseen circumstances has been a huge anticlimax. Ironically, this was supposed to be the longest F1 season of all-time with 22 races – but instead, we will have what could be the longest off-season. A dire situation, but thankfully, we got our hands on a worthy alternative.

Formula One: THE CHAMPIONS by legendary F1 commentator Maurice Hamilton is more than just a glossy coffee-table book – it is an astounding walk down the 70 glorious years of the sport. Since the Grand Prix’s start in 1950 just 33 men have achieved the accolade of F1 World Champion. Accordingly, the book captures a long history of legendary drivers and what made them so special – men of speed who were champions in the truest sense. Fascinating, never-seen-before photographs by award winning photographers Bernard & Paul-Henri Cahier make these iconic legends and stories come alive. It is a stunning photographic portrayal of the poise, skill and winning mindset that separates the fast from the furious, the elite from the talented.

The riveting foreward, written by the one and only Bernie Ecclestone, sets the tone. Adding immense perspective to the book are exclusive insights and quotes from icons such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Maurice’s historic interviews with the sport’s great lost heroes such as Niki Lauda, James Hunt and Ayrton Senna – are pure gems.

Our verdict: This book is a treasure for every Formula One fan to read over and over again – an eternal celebration of the sport we love so much, and the champions that make the sport what it is. These heroes are timeless, and similarly, you will never tire of reading through their stories, admiring their cars and looking through the photographs. For those who have been following the sport from more recent eras, it is a great way to feel connected with the champions of the yesteryears. For others, it is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Either way, this is a book that will bring a smile to your face every time you look through it.
