Alfa Romeo-Sauber awarded the ‘Best Team of the Year’ award for obvious reasons.
Sauber (now Alfa Romeo) had an eventful season in 2018. One of the brightest Formula 1 talents of recent times, Charles Leclerc, made his debut with the team last season. But also, the Swiss-based team reunited with their star junior driver from 16 years ago, Kimi Raikkonen. Just for their signing of Kimi ‘Iceman’ Raikkonen and giving us two more years to enjoy his superstardom, we awarded Sauber the ‘Best Team of the Year’ award.
The team’s decision to stick with Marcus Ericsson well beyond his prime did earn them some negative points. In fact, we were hoping that the team’s Swedish backers would give the faster Swede (Felix Rosenqvist) a chance to race in Formula 1. And also, a big thank you to the team for their hospitality at the Grands Prix in Barcelona and Spa last year. The ladies who run their media office, Maria and Mia, are thorough professionals and friendly to deal with.
