Rivals seem to be working hard to deem all of Ferrari’s 2018 F1 car illegal!
First, it was Ferrari’s halo-mounted mirrors. Then, it was their engine – which is still being scrutinised. Now, Red Bull Racing believe that Ferrari’s DRS is illegal. How soon before rivals try and deem much of Ferrari’s 2018 F1 car as illegal?
In Ferrari’s case, it seems that their past reputation precedes them. The Italian team has often bent, broken and twisted the rule book to achieve glory and success in Formula 1. But then again, which teams haven’t? In Formula 1, we have often seen in the past that the rule breaker is often a few steps ahead of the rule makers!
However, in Ferrari’s case, their innovations almost always raise an eyebrow and I think it is a bit unfortunate. I don’t think we question Mercedes and Red Bull Racing as much, but then again, there is a past reputation that drives our judgements when it comes to Ferrari. It could also be the media bias.
Also, if there’s anything about Ferrari that should be deemed illegal it should be their ruining of Kimi Raikkonen’s races; their historic bonuses that run into millions of dollars while the minnows struggle. It should be their non-participation in the raft race in Canada. For more on this topic, you are welcome to tune in to this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast:
